COL (Ret.) Jeffrey L. Gaylord, Senior Army Instructor

Colonel Jeffrey L. Gaylord was appointed as the Senior Army Instructor for Northeast High School in August 2016. He serves as the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Department Chairman while coaching the Raider and Marksmanship teams.
Colonel Gaylord was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corp program as a Field Artillery Officer in the United States Army in 1986 from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. His initial assignment was with Bravo Battery, 6-32d Field Artillery (Lance), 2d Infantry Division, Korea as a Firing Platoon leader, and Battery Adjutant for the only COHORT lance firing battery under direct control of the Combatant Commander. While assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps, he deployed as a member of Joint Task Force South in Operation Just Cause and as a Battalion Intelligence Officer in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Upon leaving active duty in 1992, Colonel Gaylord became a traditional guardsman in the 5-113th Field Artillery Regiment where he served as the Battalion Targeting Officer and Operations Officer until assuming command of Alpha Battery, 5-113th Field Artillery Regiment in March 1994. Upon completion of command, Colonel Gaylord served in the 113th Field Artillery Brigade with a follow-on assignment to the 30th Enhanced Separate Brigade (NCARNG) as the Brigade Fire Support Officer. In 2000, Colonel Gaylord returned to the 113th Field Artillery Brigade to serve as the Brigade Operations Officer until transitioning to the Title 10 Program.
In 2001, Colonel Gaylord was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery, Fort Bragg, North Carolina as the Army National Guard Liaison Officer and Deputy Operations Officer. In 2004, he was assigned to the Army National Guard Bureau, Arlington Virginia where he served as the Operations Officer for CENTCOM, JFCOM, NORTHCOM and CONUS Exercises.
Colonel Gaylord assumed command of 2-115th Field Artillery Regiment in April 2005. Shortly after taking command, he mobilized and deployed with the 196th Field Artillery Brigade as an Embedded Training Team Chief and Combat Advisor to the Afghanistan National Army in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In July 2006, he assumed command of 1-278th Armored Cavalry Regiment headquartered in Henderson, Tennessee. He commanded the squadron for two years and was selected to serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff in Office of the Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe Virginia. In 2010, he attended the United States Army War College. Upon graduation, he became the Deputy Director for International Training Programs in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs in Washington, DC. In July 2013, he assumed the duties as executive officer to the Director, Army Capabilities Integration Center at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command. In July 2014, Colonel Gaylord transitioned to become the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Director, Army Capabilities Integration Center.
Colonel Gaylord is married to the former Virginia Clark of Belhaven, North Carolina. They have two daughters, Emily Ryann who is registered nurse at Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN and Meredith Grayson who is a junior at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN.
